Planning for Commercial Recovery | SERVPRO® of Allen

Did you know? Up to 75% of small businesses lack a disaster recovery plan, according to a survey by Nationwide Insurance. That means it will take those businesses longer to get back on their feet after a flood, fire, tornado or other disaster.
However, careful planning can help companies stay up and running through a disaster, or open their doors quickly after one. The Insurance Information Institute has a series of “must-dos” for small businesses. Let’s look at some of the highlights:
Make a Plan
To have a plan, you have to, well, make a plan. What do you, your managers and your employees need to do in time of disaster? Have a clear marching order in terms of who does what and who calls whom. Your plan should prioritize preservation of life, then preservation of business assets, such as facilities, inventory and intellectual property.
Who You Gonna Call?
Key to your plan is a list of resources to call on. You’ll need to alert a chain of command within your business. Plus, you’ll need to have contact information for outside resources, such as your insurer and commercial cleaning partner. You’ll also need to be able to contact your vendors and suppliers. And you’ll need to communicate with customers about changes or interruptions to your business process. All that contact information should be accessible from outside of your place of work, such as on a cloud server.
